RE: 2007 Tundra Crewmax & Cougar 29BHS

i towed my all the way to fl with no promblem i only get sway if i go over 75 mph other than that it tow real good
Maryland to Fla. is a relatively flat easy pull. If you really want to test your rig. Head west I-68, route 50 in WV. Try some mountain towing if you care to thoroughly check your combo's capabilities.
To the OP, you need to weigh your rig if you really want to know if you are within your limits. Without knowing actual scaled weights all comments are just guesswork and conjecture. A CAT scale print out will effectively let you know how well your combo is matched.

RE: 2007 Tundra Crewmax & Cougar 29BHS

Using these 29bhs Specs.
I calculate the loaded weight of the trailer to be 6230+1570= 7800
Using 13% I get .13x 7800= 1014 Tongue weight.
The payload of the Tundra is shown as 1605.
1605-1014=591 for crew and gear in truck.
Could not find specs on hitch rating for Tundra
Tundra Specs
I agree you are close but in line with your Tundra/29BHS combo

RE: Great siphon

I installed a aux. 40 gal inbed tank and never have to worry about fuel stops all day. Can go 800 to 900 miles and thats more than I want in a day then fill up tanks after 5r is parked for the night.
I agree if I had a short bed equipped with the small tanks like the OP. I would permanently add auxiliary tanks. Transporting and using hand held tanks would just be too inconvenient with or without a siphon.
As the above poster states an auxiliary tank allows one to refill without having the trailer attached. We all know the headache of fueling with the trailer.

RE: Bait and Switch

And this is why I pay in full when I make the reservation.....
FWIW "Donna" shows her true colors in the letter she wrote. Anyone with any customer service experience would not slander a customer. The closing of the letter also makes a personal attack. If there is an agreed upon rate at the time of the reservation IMHO they are bound to it. The disclaimer is for peole who get old advertising materials or rate info. Not for those who make deposits and lock in reservations. A deposit is a contract. How would you feel if you put a deposit down on a car or truck for an agreed upon price only to arrive to purchase it and have the dealership add $1,000 to the sale price because the manufacturer raised the MSRP the day before? It amounts to the same thing. A bait and switch would have been luring him there with words only then dropping the rate hike bomb. Placing a deposit changes the rules.
I tend to agree with the above. But there seems to be more to the story. There are some personal relationships involved. OP never did state the amount he was overcharged. The situation appears not to be a straight forward consumer transaction

RE: Confused on what to get to pull our fifth wheel - HELP!

You are correct a 9k 5'er is on the light side. However you will still have a lot of payload with crew and gear. The price difference between 3/4 ton and 1 ton is minimal but the extra payload is significant. Ford typically has the higher payload. Are you buying new or used? I'd lean toward a long bed purely for the fuel capacity. 26 gallons of fuel in a short bed does not last long. Stopping to fuel with the trailer attached can be a hassle. Keep reading you will get lots of opinions, you will also gain some valid useful information.

RE: NYC area campground

If your goal is to mainly tour the city. Then Liberty Harbour is way more convenient to NYC than any of the others. If you have destinations in mind other than NYC the others CG's maybe a better choice.

RE: Well, the trailer has gone night night

Yes, the trailer is winterized and has gone to sleep for the winter. I spend most of my year dreaming about getting away, even if it's only to the state park 5 miles down the road. We'd like to go more, but with the economy the way it is, it's hard for hubby to get time off. Any one else want to chime in on the wintertime blues?
I try to keep the off season as short as possible. Our last trip is Thanksgiving weekend. We start again mid March. 3 months of down time is still too much.

RE: Great siphon

If using portable tanks is something you do regularly. Why not get a permanent solution for your small tanks and have an auxiliary tank installed? Hauling and using portable tanks has a additional safety and risk factor. Why take a chance?
Your siphon maybe a wonderful item but reserve it for emergency use.
Get the proper set-up for regular use. Of course this is just my take on your scenario.

RE: Towing 6800# with an F150? Should I go 3/4 ton instead?

You give dry weight of your TT as 6800lbs. and 850lbs. as TW. But what are your scaled weights? Dry weights are notoriously inaccurate. If scale weights are not feasible what is the loaded weight of the trailer?.
Having accurate weights will make your decision simple.
If you already owned the F-150 maybe you good give it a try. But I don't recommend buying a 1/2 ton truck for a trailer your size. Get the 2500 Burb or any 3/4 ton big block gasser or diesel. Why upgrade from a 1/2 ton to another 1/2 ton?

RE: Best portable waste tanks?

I prefer the Barker vs. all other brands. I have a 32 gallon model that I carry on my rear ladder.

RE: Mid-March Camping......Advisable??

Mid March here in the Mid Atlantic is generally safe and doable. Mid March in New England is a bit early. Especially in a hybrid.

RE: Hensley Arrow and ProPride - Not a New Debate

Thanks, ksd.
Just received the hitch this afternoon. I was a bit surprised by the weight of this thing. The hitch components came in four boxes with a total shipping weight of about 240 lbs. I had heard that the PP hitch would increase the tongue weight by about 100 lbs. Where does the rest of the weight go? It couldn't be all to the parts that get attached to the truck, right?
Any weight attached to the reciever is considered tongue weight. Assuming there is some extra hardware that is not used. The additional TW is closer to 200lbs.

RE: Needing some trading advice

You are in a tight spot. An 07 is too new to trade without taking a substantial loss. I don't advise making the trade because you are upside down on your current unit. You owe more than the TT's actual market value. I suggest you keep your unit until you have paid down the loan more. Yes you could attempt to sell private party . But your selling price will be very close to the cost of a brand new unit. Enjoy what you have. If you decide to upgrade to the 09 be prepared to take a significant loss on the deal.
Bottom line trading in a new TT is a losing proposition. You can spin the numbers anyway you want. Depreciation on your current unit will drag down the deal.

RE: Bodiak Front Receiver

I don't want to hijack this thread but have a question. Would it be legal to carry bicycles on the front that would stick out in front of the headlights? This might be my answer to carrying my bicycle when pulling the 5er instead of putting a receiver hitch on the rear of the 5er.
Technically it is not legal to have anything interfere with you headlights or your vision. However many carry bikes on front receivers. I don't think you will ever be issued a ticket.
However if the bikes truly create a lighting problem than you need to reconsider the idea regardless if it is legal or not.

RE: Hensley Arrow Right For Us or Too Complicated?

I have owned both. The Equalizer is adequate and a much better value. The HA is a better hitch. The HA is no harder to hook up than an EQ. In some ways it is easier because you don't have to deal with the bars. However alignment is more critical with the HA. They are both good products. Do you want value or due you want no sway? They will both do the job and you will have no problem setting up either one. Money for the HA is hard to justify, however after using mine for over 3 years I have no regrets. The HA does deliver a superior, more relaxed towing experience.

RE: Truck camer to TT, why no generators?

I have a semi-permanent genset on the rear of my TT. Genset is a 4300 watt Robins Subaru and can produce 30 amps, just like being on shore power. Genset will run about 8-9 hours on a full tank.
I can simply unlock box and easily remove genset if need be. Otherwise genset remains on trailer 24/7. The Gen Box has a built in 12 volt fan to ensure proper ventilation.
Obviously convenient when boondocking. Also nice to have for lunch breaks, and overnight stops.
Having a genset 24/7 is not a must have for most. But being self contained has its advantages.

RE: jayco black water gauge

I know this is somewhat a poor response but the gages are notoriously inaccurate. I never even look at mine. You develop a feel for how much water you use. Black tank will never fill unless your camping longer than a week. Grey is good for 2 days of normal use. If Grey over fills it will back into tub and you know to dump. Gauges are really not critical and maybe used as a guide or not at all. Just my 2 cents.
